| Kick-off meeting |

On 29-30 January 2007 the Federal Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry, Environment and Water management, Forest Area Planning and Forest Protection hosted a kick-off meeting in Vienna, Austria. It was the formal starting point of this funding initiative. The purpose of the meeting was to foster communication between all the parties involved.
The meeting was attended by more than 50 participants from research and funding institutions. This was remarkable because of the small size of the funding initiative (seven joint projects with 24 sub-projects) and underlines the great importance attributed to the conference by the scientific community.

| Evaluation and selection of proposals |

In response to the first pilot common call within the ERA-Net CRUE, 15 proposals for transnational research projects were submitted with a requested funding volume of 3.8 million Euros. Each proposal was evaluated by a minimum of three scientific reviewers nominated by the countries involved as funding institutions. The evaluation was based on 10 specific criteria which are listed in the call text, section A.4.
Seven collaborative projects were selected as candidates for funding with an accumulated funding total of 1.6 million Euros. For full details go to the call details page

| Mid-term Seminar in Lyon in October, 2007 |

On 17 October, 2007, a mid-term seminar was held in Lyon, France as part of the first ERA-Net CRUE Funding Initiative.
The mid-term seminar consisted of three main components:
(1) Extended abstracts and presentations: The underlying intention of this part was to review the interim results of the research projects after they had passed the first half of their lifetime.
(2) Workshop: The goal of the workshop was to discuss key issues of the call’s thematic framework.
(3) Discussion on topics for the 2nd common call: The aim of this discussion was to contribute to the preparation of the 2nd ERA-Net CRUE Funding Initiative planned for 2008.
